My Morning Routine

Image
If you are like me and love to live in a clean home but cannot clean all day - this post is for you! Routines are the key to live happily! What is a Routine? (According to dictionary) - "A sequence of actions regularly followed"; "It is followed as a regular procedure rather than a special event" My morning routine, involves doing a little bit everyday to maintain my home and this has saved me from going into cleaning marathons (remember when guests show up?!) so many times. There was a time when I used to being jerked into wakefulness by a loud unpleasant alarm and would drag myself out of bed at 6:30 am, pretending to be awake until its as late as 7 am and then rush into the bathroom, wear whatever is available, stuff mouthful of breakfast followed by rushing to the bus stop almost missing my school bus. I remember being in awe of my class teacher. She was this beautiful lady who was always put together. She dressed elegantly, her hair was neatly plait

#1 Weight loss Rule - Eat Only When Hungry

Image
Yes! You read it right. Eating only when you are actually hungry and in moderation is the No-1 weight loss mantra (which you will hear me repeat a lot in this post). Ayurveda suggests:                                                    "mita ahara, mita vihara, mita ayasa" Meaning - It is advisable to have moderation in eating, activity and rest.                               Food is the most important aspect of being alive. We don't really need a buffet full of food to stay alive. Starters, main-course followed by sweet desserts are only to feed our taste buds. Yes that amazing sensation of taste, which lasts no longer than few minutes. We humans are not just the physical body, we have an intellectual body within us, an emotional aspect and also a deep layer called "Self". All these layers in us are affected by the food we eat. Hence, eating is very important. Some people need 3 proper meals to get through the day and some have 6 small meals,

Benefits of taking a break

Image
I am back!! I have been on a month's break from my usual life of working, homemaking, blogging and so on but not from practicing yoga (I miraculously made time for asanas and pranayama). But it feels great to be back! So what did I do during my break? Well, it started with my first concert ever!! DJ - Snake in Yelahanka, Bangalore. My friends who joined me seemed to enjoy it, but I must say I am not a concert person. Sweaty people touching me from all sides and screaming on top of their voices with noise pollutionmore than 100 decibels is simply too much! I like my peace and quite. Anyway I am glad I didn't miss it. Secondly, I have been doing some serious gardening. I must admit there is something peaceful about planting new saplings, watering and taking care of them. It is like a meditation practice, I am completely immersed in the task at hand and are not really thinking about anything else. My favorite part of the break was my family trip to the United Kingd

Preparation today is key to success tomorrow

I have missed posting this past week because I have been enjoying a mini-vacation. My husband and I are living with his uncle for two weeks and I must say it has been such a relaxing experience so far all thanks to their maid! Yes. She is wonderful!! She comes every morning at 8 am and leaves by noon. Although she is just 38 years old she is very kind and caring by nature. She understands everyone's likes and dislikes immediately and makes sure we are all comfortable. Having her is a boon! Every morning when I get ready and go downstairs, she keeps a hot cup of coffee ready, chops fresh fruits and keeps them ready, prepares breakfast for us and packs our lunches into a sets of cute matching colored boxes! She sends us all off to work and even reminds us to check if we have our phones, wallets, keys etc in place. When we get back from work, the house is all tidied up and neat, dinner is made and kept in the fridge, fresh fruits are cut and placed on the dining table. She

Sathya - How to be truthful?

Image
Let's admit it, We all lie!  Whether it is to get what we want, or protect someone’s feelings, cover up a mistake or simply to fake things. We hate to admit it, but surprisingly we lie quiet often. And we conveniently tell ourselves it is all for the good. The concept of white lies has completely confused us!! According to Wikipedia: A lie is an assertion that is believed to be false, typically used with the purpose of deceiving someone.  Lies may serve a variety of instrumental, interpersonal, or psychological functions for the individuals who use them. Generally, the term "lie" carries a negative connotation and depending on the context a person who communicates a lie may be subject to social, legal, religious, or criminal sanctions. That says it all, doesn’t it? Some of the most common lies are: -     “I’m on my way?” and still getting dressed -       “That looks great on you” -        “I’m fine” when I am clearly

My weekly cleaning challenge

Image
Saucha. i.e. cleanliness is one of the most important  Niyama a person must follow. Last Saturday I just got back home from my yoga class and walked past the kitchen into my room to drop off my bag. When I came back to make a cup of tea I was aghast at the sight of the total mess my family had made out of it, I had left it spotless this morning and now there was evidence of all the cooking that happened from breakfast to lunch. I told myself, I was too tired and couldn't be bothered to clear it up now after all I need a break! So, I made myself a cup of tea and was about to sit down when my Aunt in law called out "Helloooo". I could feel my stomach churning "Oh No!!". But as it always happens she walked right into the kitchen to find me sitting amidst a messy kitchen with my tea. She is very kind and never said anything about it. But still!! I should've just cleared it up when I had a few minutes rather than waiting to do it another time. सत्

URI - A Surgical strike review

Image
Happy Pongal!! This week I went to see the current thriller Uri: The Surgical Strike directed by debutant Aditya Dhar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala starring Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal among the others. Initially, I was skeptical about this as I expected a lot of violence. But, it turned out to be a very touching experience and makes one feel deeply for the lives of soldiers. It is based on real story of how on 8th September 2016 , Uri base camp in the state of Jammu Kashmir was under attack by 4 heavily armed militants. It was also reported as "the deadliest attack on security forces in Kashmir in two decades" . To avenge all the terror attacks, a Surgical strike was conducted by the Indian Army which is explained in this movie. Surgical strike: A surgical strike is a military attack which is intended to damage only a legitimate military target, with no or minimal collateral damage to surrounding structures, vehicles, bu
