Benefits of taking a break
I am back!!
I have been on a month's break from my usual life of working, homemaking, blogging and so on but not from practicing yoga (I miraculously made time for asanas and pranayama).
But it feels great to be back!
So what did I do during my break?
Well, it started with my first concert ever!! DJ - Snake in Yelahanka, Bangalore. My friends who joined me seemed to enjoy it, but I must say I am not a concert person. Sweaty people touching me from all sides and screaming on top of their voices with noise pollutionmore than 100 decibels is simply too much! I like my peace and quite. Anyway I am glad I didn't miss it.
Secondly, I have been doing some serious gardening. I must admit there is something peaceful about planting new saplings, watering and taking care of them. It is like a meditation practice, I am completely immersed in the task at hand and are not really thinking about anything else.
My favorite part of the break was my family trip to the United Kingdom. We have been to London, Dover, Cotswold, Whitby, Middlesbrough and Scotland.
Few things I would like to mention:
- If you are planning to visit Europe this is the best time (Mid April to May)! Although be warned of Europe's changing weather, it could change from bitterly cold to warm and sunny in a matter of few hours.
- Always pack your best clothes! Yes, no joggers or sweatpants please. Europeans dress well. They are stylish, smart, elegant and formal. I have seen people wearing yoga pants and joggers in America but not a single one in the UK. People here take their appearance very seriously. And so should we!
- Invest in good shoes. I am so thankful I did not carry my heels or wedges, because we have walked up-to 27000 steps per day. I am seriously telling you no - one wore heels on the road. Women wore good quality matching shoes, mainly ballet flats or white loafers.
- You will miss Indian food unless you have a thing for breads.
I love spices! I need my food to have some spices in it or at least bit tangy, which is not what you get there. Croissants and breads are everywhere with different flavored jams. So unless you have a sweet tooth bring some ready-to-eat Indian foods.
- You will want to click pictures of almost everything! Europe is a beautiful place and it is wise to have enough memory in your phones to capture every moment.
- Most importantly, going on trips makes us introspect. Through this trip I got a different perspective of life. Something about being in a different place not doing the usual things, makes you think through about your life and how you can make it better.
Why should we take a break?
Just like how being thirsty is your body's way of begging for water, being exhausted is its way of begging for downtime. We must all give ourselves a break once in a while.
Thanks for reading.
See you in next week:-)
