My weekly cleaning challenge

Saucha. i.e. cleanliness is one of the most important Niyama a person must follow.

Last Saturday I just got back home from my yoga class and walked past the kitchen into my room to drop off my bag. When I came back to make a cup of tea I was aghast at the sight of the total mess my family had made out of it, I had left it spotless this morning and now there was evidence of all the cooking that happened from breakfast to lunch.

I told myself, I was too tired and couldn't be bothered to clear it up now after all I need a break!

So, I made myself a cup of tea and was about to sit down when my Aunt in law called out "Helloooo". I could feel my stomach churning "Oh No!!". But as it always happens she walked right into the kitchen to find me sitting amidst a messy kitchen with my tea.

She is very kind and never said anything about it. But still!! I should've just cleared it up when I had a few minutes rather than waiting to do it another time.

सत्त्वशुद्धिसौमनस्यैकाग्र्येन्द्रियजयात्मदर्शन योग्यत्वानि च[18]
Through cleanliness and purity of body and mind (Saucha, Shudhi)
comes a purification of the essence (sattva),
a goodness and gladness of feeling,
a sense of focus with intentness, the mastery and union of the senses,
and a fitness, preparation and capability for self-realization.
Patanjali, Yogasutras

How we live at home behind closed doors reflect on how we behave in public. When our homes are clean and tidy we automatically have a certain sense of peace. We wouldn't be constantly looking for things around the house when we need it (because we have no idea under which clutter it lay) causing more chaos and frustration.

So, the next two weeks I am challenging myself to follow this plan to keep my house clean.
I have a lot to accomplish every day so I plan on getting one cleaning task done every day.

I am so very grateful to have a maid who helps me with doing dishes, sweeping and mopping the floors. But there are several other areas that needs to be sorted out on a weekly basis.

My cleaning schedule for this week goes like this:

There are some things which I have a habit of doing everyday like making my bed in the morning, cleaning the sinks, toilet and the kitchen at night so I haven't included them in here.

So wish me luck and stay tuned to see whether this plan works for me or not!

Thank you!
